Lindy Hop Beginner Basics

Apart from looking after my lovely team of SwingFit teachers, each week I teach three SwingFit and two Lindy Hop classes. I also teach the piano and flute. So you see, I am very passionate about both Dance and Music!

Dancing became a big part of my life about 25 years ago when I decided that I needed to get fit. I went to a Lindy Hop and Charleston workshop and that was it, I was hooked!

Dancing has changed my life. I feel better, have more energy and my social life has exploded beyond belief! I have made so many good friends through dancing too. This is what motivates me to want to share this sense of community and belonging with as many people as possible.

Through dancing, I have had the opportunity to become involved in so many interesting projects including being asked to choreograph dance scenes for TV dramas. In 2018, I was commissioned by BBC One to be one of the ‘County Durham Swing Dancers’ which is shown during the announcements on BBC One.

SwingFit began in 2010 as a series of small dance classes aimed at improving the well-being of the community. SwingFit is a feel-good class! It helps me to feel great both mentally and physically. It is so much fun and you can’t help but smile. This is the happiness I’d like to share with my local community. Anyone who comes to my class can expect a warm welcome, great music and a fun way to exercise. An all round feel good experience!
